Agnieszka Furtak was born in Krakow, Poland in 1977. She graduated from the School of Banking and Management in Krakow with a degree in Economics in 2000, today she lives and create in Chicago, USA.
Within her photography and collage work, Agnieszka is interested in capturing microscopic moments, the barely perceptible. She often likens these instances to a drop of water--momentary, elusive, quickly dissolved into the fabric of unconscious existence. When she is able to capture these moments, she places them within her work, which to her is pure bliss.
As in poetry, Agnieszka feels it is important to be guided by the present, to allow her current mood and energy to guide her work. Working in this way is never about letting her mood and energy overpower concepts and ideas, but to facilitate the capturing of what lies within the what is in front of her, this is what drives her my ideas, ultimately towards what lies beneath.
Themes that appear and re-appear throughout Agnieszka's work include environmental fear and social restriction, isolation, desperation, spiritual longing, beauty turned upside down and inside out.
