PROCESS OF
SUBTRACTION
Friday Sept 18th

ProcessPromo1A group photo show about reduction through technique.
Photography is often about refining an image until the essential elements harmoniously exist in the frame. The group photography show “Process of Subtraction” at Chicago Art Department is about taking removal further. Nine artists present work that challenges through the utilization of photography as a basis for extraction. Elements have been removed with a wide variety of techniques – from actually covering physical elements within a scene and distressing prints and negatives, to the reproduction of the image through line and shape.

The Chicago Art Department is pleased to have a great mix of rising artists pushing the medium to the edge and back again – Allison Grant, Nathan Miller, Jessica Pierotti, Victor Salgado, Chuck Przybyl, Ben Alper, Daniel Hojnacki, Nicole White, and Edyta Stepien. Consider this show a cross-section of what is going on now in image-making, taking the raw elements of photography be it film or digital and pushing past the standard photographic image without gimmicks or effects, just raw distillation until the pure concept emerges.

Friday October 11 — 4 – 10 PM (Second Friday Gallery Walk)
