“In Situ” is the first solo exhibition by Chicago-based photographer Chelsea Ross. Through a series of styled portraits collected over the last two years, In Situ constructs and explores the relationships between character, identity and femininity in the context of place.

By positioning her subjects against monumental landscape and architecture, as well as within defined interiors, Ross utilizes the individual portrait to both interrogate and insert agency into the worlds in which we inhabit. Combined with gestures and techniques of fashion photography, the portraits also explore the projection of the self through dress and attire. The images reveal instances of harmony, irreverence and absurdity between the fluid image of the self, specifically the feminine, against that of our surroundings.
