freshCAD | May 2010

Spring is here and what better way to breathe new life into than to reveal some fresh faces and work by new and emerging artists! In the fall of 2009, Chicago Art Department embarked on an ambitious quest to expand their operations by opening a second space dedicated to studio practice. The result was a campaign to recruit new artists and provide them with avenues to grow through exhibition opportunities, access to CAD's new studio space and programs. freshCAD shows the results of this campaign, highlighting CAD’s new artists and their work. freshCAD will bring together an exciting range of work from sound and video art to painting installation to photography and mixed media. There will be something to engage everyone and it will be an exciting evening mingling with up and coming Chicago artists! "freshCAD" features CAD artists Allison Putnam, Alexis J Alma, Agnieszka Furtak, Ryan Miller, Hilesh Patel, Edyta Stepien, Chuck Pryzbyl, Marta Sasinowska, Jennifer Nalbantyan, Mike Wilgus, Ryan Clark, Kirsten Strauss, Jared Wheeler, Devin Breen, and Dietrich McGaffey. Venus Zine along with Chicago Art Department invite you to a weekend with MELISSA AUF DER MAUR, celebrating her recent Out of Our Minds album/film/comic book. Come to CAD to see Melissa's photography, filmmaking, comic art, and hear her music. Friday April 23rd, 2010 | 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Chicago Art Department - 1837 South Halsted Screening of the Out of Our Minds film begins at 7:00 p.m. followed by a Q&A with MAdM and director Tony Stone. Plus, MAdM's Out of Our Minds photography will be on display. Food will be provided courtesy of Yum Universe and drinks will be provided courtesy of Old Style and 404 Wines.
