CLASS DESCRIPTION
Since we started CAD, there has been much interest in specifically
learning video editing and production. Unfortunately none
of our offerings have been specifically designed to teach
video editing, although we have touched on it a little bit
in all three of our programs to date (Love it or Leave it,
Man vs. Machine, and recently completed Street Studies). So
as a result I have decided to start a video editing/production
workshop/class.
The idea here is to guide people through a learning process
each week, and give you excercises to practice and learn from,
along with readings and screenings, critique sessions and
maybe a visiting speaker or two somewhere down the road. The
hope here is for a small group to learn and develop video
editing skills as well as video production experience.
Because it would be a small group setting, I imagine people
would all learn from me directly and indirectly from each
other. I believe our new space is set up very well for this
type of offering, especially for a small group of around 5-6
students. We have 5 great workstations as well as wireless
airport for those who have wireless-enabled laptops.
We will be primarily learning and working with Apple's Final
Cut Pro, although we will also at some point touch
on other programs such as Apple's iDVD and
iMovie, Adobe's Photoshop
and Illustrator, Arkaos Vj,
and maybe even Digidesign's Protools (bridging
the gap between sound and video). We also have nice cameras,
lights, tripods, video mixers, microphones, and other toys
to play with. And as a final bonus, we have a great courtyard
in back, which allows for the occasional spontaneous BBQ (and
everyone loves a bbq!).
So we are looking at having the weekly sessions meet Mondays
from 7-10PM. There would probably be open studio time either
before or after. This way people would get a mix of formal
and informal videowork. The class would meet each week for
a price of $100 month. July for example has 5 Saturdays, so
that would mean each session would cost only 20 bucks. Not
bad if you ask me. The class would be ongoing, with scheduled
breaks for holidays and the like.
If you don't manage to get into this specific workshop don't
worry. If there is enough interest I would be happy to start
a 2nd, separate section. But I do feel strongly about keeping
the groups small. Just from my experience it makes for learning
software and production more efficient.
