The artistic experience at The Chicago Art Department (CAD) is driven by three simple goals:

TRY IT!
Our art is about exploring uncharted territories. It's about the love of experimenting. It's about providing a comfortable environment to try unfamiliar things and push your boundaries.

MAKE IT!
Our art is about translating impulse and ideas into a realized, actualized work. It's about composing, crafting, and finishing.

SHARE IT!
Our art is about sharing it with others. It's about engaging in community. It's about showing your work in an exhibition, performing in front of an audience, screening, publishing, documenting.

AN INTERMEDIA APPROACH
We encourage a practice that doesn't confine itself to one media. Even if that entails not being a master of one media, we believe there is value in being able to speak multiple languages.
