The Chicago Art Department was founded by three young artists
with university teaching experience.

MIKE
NOURSE
Mike Nourse is a man of many fingers, but he
works primarily in digital video. Since graduating from
SAIC’s Visual Communication program in 2002, he
has been teaching media studies at both Depaul University
and SAIC. Mike has produced a series video shorts focused
on entertainment, news, and political media commentaries
that he considers “investigations” or “re:constructions”,
as they follow rules to yield results. While he works
with various festivals (both as contributor and curator),
he also paints digital transfers which have also been
showcased in Chicago galleries and in the loop’s
Thompson Center.
In 2003, Along with 2 other like-minded instructors,
Mike co-founded an intermedia arts school called The
Chicago Art Department, which has recently moved into
a new location in the Chicago Arts District.
This fall, Mike will begin his third year of advising
graduate students for the Visual Communication department,
and his first semester of teaching for the Film, Video,
and New Media department. Mike will also be teaching
for The Chicago Art Department while running his video
and design company (Zero One Projects).

NATHAN
PECK
Nathan teaches video art, multimedia and intermedia
courses at St. Xavier University in the Art & Design
department.
Nathan's work combines painting, sound, video, annimation,
and installation to create curious hybrid artforms.
His work can be seen around Chicago in clubs and galleries
where he presents ROOK TV,
a live combination of video paintings and video performances.
Nathan received his MFA from the intermedia program
at the University of Iowa

NAT SOTI
As an interMEDIA artist, Nat possesses a wealth of experience
in graphic design, digital video, writing and music.
Nat has also dabbled in drawing, painting, architecture,
and 3D-animation.
Nat earned a Post-Bacclaureate Certificate and MFA
from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Nat's
undergraduate studies were in Political Science and
Philosophy, graduating with a BA from Georgetown University.
As a recent MFA graduate, Nat already has a significant
amount of teaching experience. Nat has taught design
classes at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago
and DePaul University.

LAURA CHIARAMONTE
Laura Chiaramonte graduated from The Ohio State
University with a B.F.A., in modern dance performance
with an emphasis in choreography, Laban Notation and
Directing from Score. Since graduation she has performed
with Jyl Farenhkamp, Casey Pennel, Total Theater, Dance
Loop Chicago, Zephyr Dance, and is currently dancing
with Mad Shak Dance Company.
Laura has also choreographed and produce many show’s
in the Chicago area and is currently producing and creating
new work with CAMP, Creative Arts Melting Pot, a multi
arts performance group based in Chicago, which she is
a founding member.
Besides creating new work, Laura has been a student
of CAD, Chicago Art Department, for the last two semesters
and has been inspired to branch off into video. This
being extremely exciting for her, she has been exploring
new ways of dance choreography through the use of video
and intermedia.
