A SURPRISE IN THE PROCESS
March 11-25, 2016
CAD East

Chicago Art Department is pleased to present a group exhibition of works by eleven HPAC Center Program 4 Alumni. The exhibition A Surprise in the Process lifts the veil separating the audience from art studio, offering viewers a glimpse backstage, where serendipitous events help shape a work of art. Artists work in unconventional media including fabric embroidery, appropriated photography, paint residue, illuminated led lights, antique glass, robotics, mirrors, newsprint, common household furniture, India ink, wooden blocks, planter box signs, and paintings that incorporate corroded digital print. Each work challenges and dazzles viewers both visually and conceptually while conforming to the common theme: chance. Mara Baker, Lily Dithrich, Rami George, Regin Igloria, Kara Cobb Johnson, Katherine Lampert, Dana Major, Carlos Matallana, Kunal Sen, Erin Toale, and Julian E. Williams, Jr. participate; Kara Cobb Johnson and Katherine Lampert curate.
