Trendpiece features work by Lauri Apple, who hails from PA (but has lived all over). She is not a trained artist but started painting in the summer of 2007 after moving to Chicago from NYC, where she went to law school. She work in acrylics, markers, and colored pencils, and her political illustrations regularly appear on wonkette.com, a major DC political blog, and Chicagoist.com. She has shown work in Pittsburgh and Chicago, most recently at the Bleeding Heart Bakery in Lakeview. Her art is about humor, politics, and culture/pop culture, not necessarily in that order.

In addition to making art she runs FoundClothing, a website documenting the clothes and personal items she and others find abandoned in public places or in the trash — the site's been featured in/on the NY Times, Chicago Tribune, NBC's Today Show and other places.

Last year Laura painted all 47 vice-presidents, and she is currently collaborating with Chicago artist Jeremy Scheuch on 50 Aldermen/50 artists, in which they will ask 50 different Chicago artists to portray Chicago's 50 aldermen.

Please visit Trendpiece and say hi for CAD!
