I utilize text and lettering and figure-based imagery with mediums such as oils, watercolor, ink, wood, metal and paper. Integrated in the body of work are tagging, stenciling and public political statements, Hinduism, Animism, politics instincts, language and emotion.
Every day we wake up, our paths are unknown. On our many journeys, we often find ourselves in crowded places, each carrying on a different conversation – some more involved than others. Other times we wander from group to group, interjecting our comments and moving on. Using lines to represent each individual path taken, a conversation is mapped out. Bold lines stress important points, while a concentration of lines indicates a group carrying on. Others may drift about succumbing to white noise, only to fade into the background.

Abraham Velázquez Tello (b. 1985, Mexico City) experiments with a variety of media that allows him to investigate gender issues within the Latino community. His curiosity for seldom-explored places continues with a new series of photographs from Mexico City in which he documents a new interpretation of old ruins.

Silkscreen printing is another medium that I wanted to explore; it allows me the chance to utilize my graphic design skills while learning a new artistic technique. I enjoy working with this medium and hope to continue with it.
Matt Hill

Matt lives and works in Chicago but takes most of his photos while on the road. Not normally for the purpose of preserving a memory, but because foreign environments have proven to be better subjects. Turning onto an unfamiliar road, everything is new and in an unexpected place, and in that environment even the mundane can become exciting and interesting.

My transformation to artist and educator is rooted in a belief of hard scientific fact; mathematics, physics, and chemistry. Most of my photographic work is calculated, staged performances that exhibit the forbidden, psychosexual behaviors, issues of the body, beauty, and intimacy. Not only do I wrestle with religion, but I also have wrenching scientific guilt. My current work harnesses my aptitude and understanding of the sciences and has moved my work in new directions. I experiment with video, interactive sculpture, and have even regressed from the technological to analog art and scientific practices. I am a champion of the digital revolution, and yet an exorable participant.

My inspiration is art therapy. My message is to communicate the story of my life through snippets, moments and mini narratives. I have a deep urge to find out what people are like under their masks–underneath the armor. At the earliest moments as a child, we are taught to dissimulate our thoughts, to be polite with people we dislike and to control our emotions. Models in fashion adverts are the ultimate in disguise and control. I find it therapeutic to graffiti those images - making them more imperfect…like me.

Jen Rosenthal
http://jenrosenthal.com
My art is all about the process. It’s like my meditation, my therapy, my Zen. My primary focus deals with the internal discovery/journey and the exploration of the dualities of life and Self. Combined, repetitive themes of fear and hope, uncertainty and freedom, and growth and decay can be found throughout my work.
Jen is currently a resident artist and Director of Development at CAD. While her interests include video remixing, the by-product of visual feedback, repetitive symbolism, and slightly out of focus photography, Jen is chipping away at her own distinct form of hyper-meticulous and intimately detailed line and thread work.

The SURVIVOR insect drawings in series were inspired by the similarity between the insect’s natural defense system and the man made arsenal of weapons. The SURVIVORS act and interact on a square piece of paper, wrapped in a negative drawing of single lines that create a metallic like background for them. They play, hunt, mate and kill without any significant difference in expression and without any moralities. The arbitrariness of the survival concept gets additionally emphasized by the possibility of putting several drawings randomly together as a picture. They can also be used from all sides: the top becomes the bottom, left becomes right or the other way around.

Her photography focuses more on small details found in everyday life. Katie's work has exhibited at The Hat Factory, The Ice Factory, Art Institute of Chicago's 1926 Exhibition Space, Around the Coyote, Artemisia, and Chicago Art Department.

This artwork was created during a plane air session along the Lake Michigan Coast of Indiana. The striking columns of this modern structure that is erected amongst the dunes and natural landscape of the lakeshore captures light in a fashion that inspired this piece of artwork. I worked in pastels and charcoal to capture the very bold contrast of color and light of this building and its columns.

Residential Building with L is part of my Isolated Building Studies, a series exploring neighborhood change through the association between form and perception. Subject buildings are consistently framed to emphasize their relationship with their surroundings and to draw attention to the tension between their urban form and the absence of neighboring buildings. Examination of that tension is the starting point for a conversation about urban history and social change.
Nat Soti

I make art, music, videos and all sorts of other stuff. I have my own design/video business called Zero One Projects and am a co-founder of the Chicago Art Department.
Most of my work deals with reflecting current events, politics, and culture.
When I paint, I try to illustrate a feeling I have; most of my work is less about things and people and more about an emotion felt strongly at a certain place or time. When I am outside, I just feel more alive. I can't remember I time when I did not feel that way, and this particular painting expresses the joy and oneness I feel when I am outside. As a children's librarian, I incorporate stories and projects with a strong emphasis on the natural world.

JaGoFF

Part Detroit, part Chicago and ALL PARTS FUNK, JaGoFF is the musical intersection of wherever waste dumps & abandoned factories meet the $5 lap dance and HAM radio. It is lo-fi, subversive, sweet soul polluted by lost weekends of sweaty booty, downtempo breakbeats and massive bass. Perversely honest, strangely beautiful and badass funky. Download it. Burn it. Share it.

To create these pieces, I shoot large format digital photographs and bring them together in a digital environment. Each collage takes the individual objects out of their normal context and places them into one that more clearly expresses the beauty of the urban landscape’s form, color and structure.
Shawn Stucky

I have a strong bond between music, feelings, and my experiences in life. For me, music can create feelings that I cannot manage to put into words, but feel compelled to create art that gives those feelings a tangible form. My style incorporates music because it acts as a catalyst for many unnamed emotions that I know I share with others. Because of that unity in emotion, I am continually inspired to create art that inspires a person to visit a familiar, but unnamed emotion.

Stacy Peterson loves to travel and take photos. With her love for adventure and curious nature, she often finds herself in precarious but highly memorable situations. Every picture is a story, a thought, a moment, a memory. She loves the fast pace of urban life, but after growing up in South Dakota, also navigates to the calm and peacefulness of rural life. Stacy is a graphic designer by trade, but also a photographer, illustrator and mixed media artist. She is inspired by nature, graffiti, architecture, travel and the wonderment of each new experience. She has a Bachelor of Science degree from South Dakota State University with a Major in Journalism/Advertising and a Minor in Art History/Graphic Design. She is a recent graduate of Archeworks with a Certificate in Social and Environmental Urban Design.
Taking inspiration from Francisco Toledo on a trip to Oaxaca, Mexico's contemporary graphic museum, I created a book using one of Toledo's sketch books as a jump point utilizing simple flash tattoo iconography in a loose día de los muertos tribute. All in all, quite a bit of fun to paint.
