New CAD resident artist and co-founder of mfchicago, a music, video and street art collective, will exhibit a collection of his video work and still photographic captures derived from his VJ experience from 2004-2009. The show titled "Capturing Motion" will be held from 6-10 PM on Friday, July 10th at the Chicago Art Department.

A VJ is a performance artist that manipulates video as an art form. Typically, VJ's mix video live and in conjunction with electronic music at clubs, festivals and "illegal" underground parties called "raves". Seth's VJ work combines video found in the public domain, samples of uncommon film footage and video he shoots of objects and subjects of interest.

    Looking forward to it!
  • It's encouraging to see this art form getting its due in a gallery show. And it's exciting to see my good friend Seth getting his due as video artist! Can't wait.

Ever since I started creating video art in the late 90s, video in galleries has for me been a challenge (both as artist and spectator). As display options have grown and become more affordable and the field has expanded, video has taken some greats steps inside the gallery environment. I'm so jazzed to see more discussions around this area at CAD, looking forward this show.
